CLIENT TESTIMONIALS

"We were building a new home and Ellen took our ideas, room measurements and probably spent hours creating drawings of each room from top down, full front and even side ways to produce a wonderful rendering of what each room would look like. She had loads of ideas and suggestions to make things flow better. She was very prompt in all of her correspondence with us and kept us up to date with the plans, shipment, installation and tweaking. Plus she has the patience of a saint in tweaking our plans to make our new house the home of our dreams. Not only can she put a kitchen together, she created our master bathroom, powder room, guest room and even the laundry room. I wholeheartedly recommend Ellen and would not hesitate to work with her again if the need arise."
Paula, New Bern NC

"We hired Ellen to paint our cabinets and update the overall look with details on the doors and new knobs and hinges. The men showed up on time, worked quickly and quietly, and got the job done in the expected amount of time. The quality of the paint job and the repair work was very good. We are very happy with the results and would recommend The Cabinet Lady."
June, Emerald Isle NC

"My husband and I had been tying to decide to update our kitchen for years. We heard about The Cabinet Lady from our neighbor so we reached out to them. What an AMAZING job they did. They were courteous, professional and very helpful with helping us choose the colors that would work best. I would highly recommend them to anyone who is planning on updating their kitchen. You will not be disappointed."
Yvonne, Apex NC

"After completing nearly an entire first-floor remodel of our new home, I can say that working with the Cabinet Lady was the least stressful part. Not only were Ellen and her staff professional, but our cabinets look wonderful. My neighbors were in awe of the fact that you cannot see brush marks on my formerly old, worn, oak cabinets. Working with The Cabinet Lady is a process – where they help you choose the best colors for your remodel based on their experience and give you advice on the details like new cabinet hardware. But after you pick out what you want, they handle the hard work. I would sincerely recommend The Cabinet Lady to anyone looking to remodel their kitchen."
Chelsea, Sanford NC

"Our renovation went off perfectly and we LOVE everything about it. Last night mom and I were cooking together in our new fabulous kitchen. I marveled at how much we were enjoying not only the look, but the functionality of our cabinets and work space. Everyone who has seen our kitchen comments on how much it opened up and transformed our house. We are happier than we imagined was possible. I've passed your contact information on to several people who now realize the opportunities that can be had with a renovation with The Cabinet Lady."
Jai, Raleigh NC

"We highly recommend Ellen, The Cabinet Lady, for your next kitchen design/installation project. We purchased a small beach cottage with the original 1948 kitchen and while the vintage sink was charming, not much else was. We decided to take it down to the studs. Ellen's vision for what the kitchen could be was remarkable. Her designs and suggestions on how to increase functional space was impressive not only to my husband and myself, but also to the contractors currently working on the home. Ellen was so easy to work with. She is very personal and professional. She was always committed to the job and making sure we were happy. Her selection of cabinetry and products is top notch and her pricing is very competitive. The project was finished on time and within budget. We love our new kitchen! Ellen also designed and installed a custom double vanity in our bathroom which turned out just beautiful. Again, on time and on budget. When we are ready to remodel our kitchen in our primary home, we plan to ask Ellen to help us again."
Dr. and Mrs. Forbes, Beaufort, NC

"Ellen was a pleasure to work with. She was professional, organized, and detail oriented. She did everything she said she would do when she said she would do it. She followed through on all the aspects of the kitchen project including coming to the site and supervising the installation performed by the contractor for the job. The design she prepared worked very well for my space and I could not be more pleased with the work that she did."
Pat – Emerald Isle, NC

"I was trying to work with a big box store to get my kitchen remodeled. After 6 weeks, the only thing they had done for me was measure my kitchen for $100, so I bailed. I looked on line and found Ellen, the Cabinet Lady. She was a DREAM to work with!! She came to my house right away with her sample books, and talked with me at my dining table. It was a wonderful feeling to finally have someone completely on top of getting my ktichen remodeled! She was quick and clear, and efficient. In the end the cost was $4,000 less then the big box store, and I am very pleased with how my kitchen turned out. Good quality cabinets as well. Go with Ellen, and you will not be disappointed!"
Cozanne – Apex, NC

"Ellen was very professional from the start of the project of the end and was on site everyday to evaluate the work. She was able to give us everything that we wanted in the cabinet layout in the Styles. We went to her show room several times double guessing our choices and she was very patient with that. She made good use of dead space that was there before and even configured a larger refrigerator area that we ended up needing two months later after our smaller fridge died. That was good looking ahead. She didn't try and over sell us and gave us exactly what we asked for throughout the entire project. The work itself was excellent."
Jim – Atlantic Beach, NC

"The Cabinet Lady is not only professional but a pleasure to work with as well. She helped us create the perfect new kitchen in our 100 year old bungalow. We love, love, love the finished product. Ellen brought our hopes to reality with special touches and excellent quality. The Cabinet Lady is the best!"
Chris – Beaufort, NC

"Ellen saw the full potential of our space. We started with a room that had five door openings, decent square footage, and an awkward layout that took up less than half the actual room. The kitchen had considerable wasted space. Other designers could not get beyond the original kitchen layout...they only could do variations on the awkward original, although we encouraged them to use the whole room. Ellen's layout was transformative. Our house feel completely different and the space is functional and beautiful. Ellen is creative, conscientious, and patient. We highly recommend her."
Marceline – Raleigh, NC

"Working with Ellen and her team to paint our kitchen cabinets was a wonderful experience. She was a delight to work with from the very initial emails and in-home consultation. It was obvious that Ellen and her team were very professional and knowledgeable about kitchen design, and after hiring them they were extremely helpful in figuring out the right color paint, and making sure it was right for our home and our decor. She gave great advice on other kitchen areas we were in process of updating so we would know how to make everything flow together to create one seamless look. Her team was FANTASTIC and a pleasure to work with. They were courteous, kind, patient, creative, and trustworthy which is so important when inviting contractors into your home. Ellen managed everything smoothly from start to finish and we had no hiccups or surprises along the way.... it was a total positive experience in every aspect. We couldn't be happier with the end results and have had nothing but "Wow!" reactions when people see the updated painted gray cabinets which used to be stained wood cabinets. They look as if they came from the factory that way as opposed to being removed and painted by hand. We highly recommend The Cabinet Lady for your kitchen cabinet makeover!"
Julie – Apex, NC

"Ellen designed our kitchen, and provided the cabinets and countertop. The kitchen's beautiful, and it turned out better than we hoped or expected. Storage space in our kitchen is greatly increased, and she worked with us to develop a moveable island that can transform our kitchen into two different and pleasing designs. We love it. (Ask her about it!) Our experience working with Ellen was a pleasure. She's creative, positive, and responsive to our suggestions and ideas. We would gladly work with Ellen on another remodeling project any time, and we offer the highest recommendation to you without reservation."
John – Cary, NC

"I came across Ellen, The Cabinet Lady, when I was searching for kitchen cabinets for our second home in Atlantic Beach, NC. Her presence in Cary and Atlantic Beach were my reason for the initial contact. When my wife and I entered her store, we were immediately impressed with her knowledge, ideas and the quality of her products. Throughout our project, she has been accessible, supportive and a real partner. Our kitchen at the beach will enhance our family time at the coast for years to come."
Gene – Atlantic Beach

"Ellen Brotzman, the Cabinet Lady, is innovative and has endless patience. My husband and I didn't know how to make our kitchen look and work better, and she was full of ideas. She took me around to see people's kitchens, but streamlined the process by taking me only to people who were doing what I was interested in. Can't say enough positive things about her professionalism, her recommendations, and her follow-through."
Christine, Chapel Hill, NC

"We were introduced to Ellen, The Cabinet Lady, through the general contractor we selected to remodel our kitchen and we feel very fortunate. We had been in our 35 year old house for 9 years and had been thinking and planning our eventual remodel for almost a decade. We had a good idea of what we wanted to do but Ellen took our ideas and expanded on them in ways we'd have never thought of. She made suggestions without being overbearing, she truly listened and heard what we were saying as to our vision and expanded on our thoughts. Many designers try to incorporate their style into a plan, but Ellen understood what we were shooting for and worked with us on every detail. Speaking of which, her attention to detail and her willingness to discuss and meet with us as many times as necessary was comforting as this was a major project we'd never been through before. Our project was completed March 18, 2013, and Ellen's design combined with the excellent work by our contractor couldn't have produced a better end result. We have the kitchen of our dreams thanks to Ellen, The Cabinet Lady."

"I started out wanting to replace ONLY my counter tops. I went to a local granite company and as I was choosing the granite, I was offered a beautiful copper sink at an incredible price. So, I took the sink and scheduled the installation of the granite and sink. On the date of the installation, we figured out that the cabinet was recessed and could NOT accommodate the new sink. So, I was advised to contact their recommended carpenter to alter the sink base cabinet. Then I started to wonder what it would cost to replace all of my kitchen cabinets. From there, I was recommended to call Ellen, The Cabinet Lady, to get a price on new cabinets. It was NOT my original plan to replace the cabinets, but I wanted to see if it would be worth completing the entire kitchen. When I contacted Ellen, the process was incredibly easy. Working with Ellen was fun and creative, and the numbers fell right into place for my budget. I could not believe how easy it was. I had NOT planned on doing the entire project, but Ellen made it effortless for me. I was very impressed with how she listened to me and caught on to MY STYLE. So much that towards the end, I said..."You know what I like, Ellen, so just choose for me if it's a simple knob or casing." I highly recommend Ellen, The Cabinet Lady. She is the best around!"

"When I think back to how dreary our kitchen was before we worked with Ellen Brotzman, I am just so grateful that we had her expertise in designing our beautiful new kitchen. One of the things that I liked best about working with Ellen is the very careful layouts she drew for us on her software. The layouts and the sketches helped us to precisely envision the alternatives we discussed with her. It's one thing to talk about a concept, and quite another to see it drawn up within the walls of your existing room. Ellen is great with the details - she often asked us to consider a type of drawer, rack, closet placement, etc. that we hadn't thought of. She respected our wishes for watching costs where possible. We always get compliments about our bright, easy-to-work-in kitchen."
Karen – Raleigh

"We love the kitchen that Ellen designed for us. She created an open concept design that maximized space in our small house. We get many compliments. I also LOVED working with Ellen. She made the process fun and simple. If you're looking for a responsive, talented, person to work with on your dream kitchen, Ellen is the person. Since she doesn't have the overhead of a showroom, her prices are very affordable. So you get designer quality and service at a price comparable or LESS than that of middle-grade stock cabinets at home improvement stores! Another reason to check out Ellen!"
Beth – Raleigh

"I want to thank you for a truly beautiful kitchen. The entire project from design to material selection to installation went so smoothly. Any little problems that came up remained just that, little, because you handled them immediately. I had great confidence in your judgment and advice and you did not disappoint. The kitchen is not only gorgeous to look at, but it is laid out to be completely functional and a joy to cook in. Thank you for all the time, talent, patience and advice that you put into my new kitchen."
Maryanne – Cary

"I think I have the best kitchen in Cary, thanks to Ellen and her expert kitchen design. I knew that I wanted a traditional style kitchen, but I really didn't know where to begin to achieve my vision. Ellen listened and drew up several design plans, staying within my galley-style footprint. She was always available to answer questions and help with decision making. The results were awesome! My kitchen is exactly as I had envisioned. I have fewer cabinets yet more functional cabinet SPACE. My kitchen appears much more spacious without adding square footage. I am also very pleased with the cabinet hardware which adds to the look and feel of the kitchen. My kitchen exceeds all expectations, thanks to Ellen. I thoroughly enjoyed working with her friendly and helpful personality. I highly recommend a kitchen design and cabinetry from Ellen."
Nancy – Cary

"Ellen was able to take our conceptual design for the UNC Chancellor's kitchen and transform it into working drawings. She provided elevations and 3-dimensional views so we knew exactly how the kitchen layout would function. We were able to do a virtual walk thru with people not accustomed to reading plan view, so they could fully understood all components. We relied on her expertise to make recommendations for placement of specialty cabinets and designer detailing; she made our job easy. She was extremely flexible and timely with revisions, and got us an approved plan on a very aggressive time schedule. The end result is a beautiful product that came in on time and within our budget. We have added to the cabinetry since the original installation, and Ellen had everything on file so adding additional shelving was as simple as making a phone call. I look forward to working with her again in the very near future."
Cheryl – UNC-Chapel Hill

"At first, I was very hesitant to work with a kitchen designer - I think I was afraid to hand over the keys to someone else. Ellen Brotzman was a lifesaver. Always the consummate professional, she worked with me with the floor plan constraints I have and came up with a really novel and effective use of my space. We went back and forth on the design, and we were able to effectively work out the details with emailing back and forth. I bought custom cherry cabinetry from Ellen, so there was no additional design services fee. She was willing to work with any contractor, but I ended up taking one of her referrals and I could not have been more pleased. Ellen even checked on the progress during an extended vacation I took during the construction - and she caught a construction problem early so we were able to resolve it over the phone instead of coming home to a disappointment.

The result - a truly WOW kitchen. Somehow within the confines of my less-than-spacious first floor footprint, I now have a bigger house. My KitchenAid mixer now pops out of its own cabinet. I have a very deep cabinet alongside the fridge that holds a ton. I have a "baking area" and a "serving area", even a "drinks area"! Almost a year later (yes, I am bad about getting to writing up reviews), I am still awed by how beautiful and functional my kitchen is. I have had people actually tell me this is the most beautiful kitchen cabinetry they have seen before!" I would heartily recommend Ellen Brotzman and her kitchen redesign services. I felt she led me toward good choices, but she also kept my style in mind and helped me select not only cabinets but also tiles, a sink, etc. that worked together. She got as excited as I did when we found just the right sink on a bargain sale! My fears of having someone else take over the project were unfounded - Ellen applied her talents and made an effective partner with me in designing a kitchen I would love, and I am thrilled with the result! I am told also that her services and the cabinets were at a bargain price compared to the same quality elsewhere!"

"Remodeling my kitchen had been a project I had wanted to complete for several years, thus – when it came time to actually begin – I wanted to work with someone I could trust and someone that would listen to what I wanted in the end. During my first meeting with Ellen it was clear that she had the attention to detail that was important to me (ok – I admit – I am a little picky). She listened and asked many questions about how we would like to use the space. Ellen's design on paper was great – but when it "came to life" it was incredible.

The quality of the cabinets and hardware I ordered from Ellen did not disappoint. Ellen provided personalized attention from beginning to end. She was at our home to ensure that the delivery of our cabinets went smoothly and she answered numerous emails from me to address any questions and concerns I had along the way and if something went wrong (which happened rarely) she addressed the problem quickly – and the list goes on. Although Ellen's specialty is kitchen design, cabinetry, and hardware – her knowledge and recommendation of kitchen redesign contractor/vendors was incredibly helpful to us as we worked to redesign our own kitchen.

Ellen referred and worked closely with our general contractor, Rocco, from Superior Remodeling, to make sure that the design was implemented to plan and the two together made my kitchen remodel become a reality far better than I had envisioned! We couldn't be any happier with the end result – Thank you ELLEN!"

"I am the owner of Superior Remodeling LLC and I have been working for about 7 years with Ellen Brotzman (aka The Cabinet Lady) and I have to say there is no better person I would rather work with and have my customers work with as well. She is kind, timely, and most importantly GREAT at her job. I have her work directly with all my clients and she picks up on their style and always creates a design that fits their needs. Her line of cabinets offers something for all of my customers' budgets even when their budgets are sometimes unrealistic. If you are thinking about hiring a designer and purchasing new cabinetry I would highly encourage you to go with her – you will not be disappointed."
Rocco – Raleigh

"Ellen designed our kitchen and master bath remodels and provided the cabinets and pulls. We've had a couple of other design attempts but nothing that satisfied us. Ellen was the first to come up with what we thought was the perfect scheme. She did not disappear through the process, rather stayed with us the whole way through. We couldn't be happier with her work and her product."

"My husband and I had admired a friend's remodeled kitchen over 2 years ago. With a very complimentary recommendation from Helen to call her designer, we contacted Ellen and The Top Drawer when we decided to move ahead with our own kitchen remodel. Bob and I were so impressed with Ellen's aesthetic and spatial design abilities, great work efficiency, and clear communications that we followed her suggestions for a dramatic change to our space. Our kitchen was removed all the way to the studs; the footprint completely changed. Ellen was with us for each and every step in the process; the transformation has been amazing. We not only have a beautiful kitchen and heart of our home but a much more efficient work space. We absolutely love our kitchen! The total project from start to finish was so gratifying in every way that I would gladly go through it all again. I think that is saying something."
Claudia and Bob – Cary

"My wife and I tried to remodel our bathrooms last summer, but the project died, primarily because of contractor sloppiness fueled by assumption and vice versa. In our past, we'd also had a kitchen makeover that turned quite sour because of incompetence – and that company is no longer in business. Thus, my default position was that I'd rather endure root canal without Novocain than dip a toe back into the remodeling/refurbishing realm. This dread, however, changed when I met and worked with Ellen Brotzman, owner of The Top Drawer. It's obvious she knows her field, and when she agreed to accommodate our time frame by working on her day off, I was impressed. And even more so, when she came through with her estimates that morning in spite of a flooded store, courtesy of a water heater in the adjacent building that had blown. Simply put, the contracting field is notorious for lots of sizzle, but not much meat. All too often the promise of the perfect project turns into a nightmare. The Top Drawer, however, is a dream come true."
